Hello!
I am a privately practising midwife and a mother to two wonderful humans. I live in beautiful Fremantle, Western Australia and I have been lucky enough to work with women planning to birth at home since 2006.
The moment I became a mother myself, I sat in my pink bathtub at home, marvelling at my newborn child and the magic of birth. From this moment I wanted to support other women to have the same empowering experience that my midwife had made possible for me. I wanted to work with women to not only come to embrace their role as mothers, but to also recognise and celebrate their own strengths and capabilities.
After graduating as a midwife in July 2005, I began working at a tertiary hospital, King Edward Memorial Hospital. Less than a year later, I had the privilege of being mentored by and working along side an experienced homebirth midwife for an entire year; whilst also continuing to consolidate my skills in the hospital environment. Following this mentorship, I started caring for my own clients planning to homebirth, under the guidance of my mentor. It was truly special that my very first client went on to have three more babies with me.
Throughout my career, I have attended over 1000 births, cherishing each unique experience. Additionally, I have successfully implemented and championed the Next Birth after Caesarean antenatal clinic at a Western Australian tertiary site; and implemented 4 Midwifery Group Practices in WA rural areas also managing the teams involved. My experience also expands into university settings where I have written and taught course units for student midwives and paramedics, gaining valuable experience as a midwifery educator. Through these experiences, I have been able to contribute to the preservation of rural birthing services and the education of future healthcare professionals in the field of midwifery.
My goal is to facilitate a woman to make her own choices through her own assessment of her and her baby’s safety. I want women to feel supported to take into account their own life experiences, values and beliefs, as well as the scientific evidence when doing so.
I believe that every woman has the right to choose where and how she gives birth, prioritising her definition of physical and psychological well-being. There is no single right way.
