Journey to Motherhood Birth Preparation Course

Journey to Motherhood is an online birth preparation course created by Abbey, a midwife with over 20 years of experience working alongside women through pregnancy, birth and early motherhood. This course is about developing your understanding of birth, exploring what matters to you and building the capacity to make decisions that feel right for you, whatever your birth brings.

understanding birth and navigating your own way through

Birth is a significant transition, physically, emotionally and personally. And while we cannot know exactly how our birth will unfold, we can take the time to understand the process, explore our choices and consider how we want to move through it.

The Journey to Motherhood brings together an understanding of birth physiology, informed decision-making, emotional preparation, practical approaches to labour, the role of birth partners and the transition into early motherhood.

This isn't about teaching you how to have a particular kind of birth. It's about giving you the space and knowledge to consider what matters to you, ask questions and develop trust in your own ability to navigate the decisions and circumstances you may meet along the way.

Because preparation isn't about controlling birth. It's about remaining connected to yourself within it.

created by abbey, the midwife

I've been a midwife for over 20 years, working alongside women and families through pregnancy, birth and the early weeks of motherhood.

Over those years, I've witnessed birth unfold in many different ways. I've also seen how much difference it can make when a woman understands what's happening, feels able to ask questions, feels safe in her environment, and knows that her voice matters.

The Journey to Motherhood grew from those experiences and from my belief that good birth preparation needs to be about more than learning how to manage contractions or writing a birth plan.

It's about understanding your body, recognising your choices and developing a relationship with yourself that you can draw on when things feel tough or uncertain.

I'm not here to tell you what kind of birth you should have. I'm here to share what I've learned, invite you to explore what matters to you and strengthen your capacity to find your own way through.

begin your journey to motherhood

Whether you're early in pregnancy, approaching birth or wanting to prepare differently this time, Journey to Motherhood gives you the opportunity to explore birth in your own time, with information, practical tools and space to consider what matters to you.

You don't need to have all the answers before birth. But you deserve the opportunity to ask the questions.
